In 19th century India, a vicious religious cult was killing travelers and stealing goods. As the number of missing persons increased and trade became difficult, the British East India Company was forced to take action. However, they gave the job to a senior official who had no contact with India at all, rather than a candidate who had been in India for many years and knew Indian people and culture very well.
