既没有刻意营造出紧张气氛，也没有过于主观的价值判断，剧情张力在演员完美表现下层层推进，引人入胜。
本片以中立的立场既展现了对受害者的同情，也表达了对海盗成因的反思，片中菲利普船长被劫为人质后，问海盗：“你们除了捕鱼和绑架，肯定还有别的生存方式。”海盗回答说：“在美国，也许有。”这段对话巧妙的提出了大多数人关于海盗本身存在原因的问题，也给出来大多数人意料之外的答案，海盗劫船当然是为了钱，但是对于贫穷落后的索马里来说，这种拿命下注的职业更是一种没得选的生存方式。
最后，影片完美的诠释了美国护照上的那段话：”不管你身处何方，美国政府都是你强大的后盾“。
A top notch performance by Tom Hanks, especially in the final scene, I don't think that many actors can pull that off. Captain Phillips is gripping with the tension evenly spread out throughout the film. There aren't that many side stories going on in the film, but it works very well considering how intense it is. Captain Phillips are different comparing to other films in that it doesn't only shed light on the heroisms the American army, but also portrays the side of the Somalians. The film no doubt successfully increases the awareness of the severity of piracy. It is strange to me how the container ship Alabama has so little protection against these circumstances considering the water they are treading. Things needs to be done, and this problem needs to be eradicated at the basis. A great film that is taken to the next level by Tom Hanks.
