Ruth and Seretse do not give up on their love even though their marriage is inconvenient to both Britain and Botswana. Seretse is Botswana's future king, who believes in democracy, equality and an end to racism and apartheid. A battle for love gradually becomes a battle for the future of Botswana, for the victory of right over wrong and for freedom in Africa. I especially enjoyed Ruth's story - she had no super powers except a loving heart and this was more than enough to secure her a life-long relationship with Seretse. As for him, Seretse's story shows that when we have the courage to fight for one thing that is important to us we will keep fighting for other important things as well.
The acting was pretty good. The dialogue was decent, with some funny bits. The pace was pretty choppy. I feel like they barely know each other before they got married, but the latter half dragged on in places. But I like it, and appreciate it for its effort in showing what b*st*rds the Brits were.

这个电影讲述了一个真实的故事，博兹瓦纳独立的故事。如果不是因为伯兹瓦纳2016年被评为世界最佳旅游地，我都不知道南非还有这么一个小国，但是这个小国出产钻石。为了自己国家的独立，为了种族平等的事业，也为了自己的爱情，年轻的国王放弃了自己世袭罔替的王位，把博兹瓦纳变成了一个民选总统的共和国。这个电影并不感人，部分情节还有点混乱，男女主人公的演技也不是很精湛，但是这个故事特别好，丝丝入扣，又不拖沓。

影片远达不到我选择时的预期期望高度，影片中的演员选角还是颇为有特色的，虽然某种感情上来说，人设和演员也并不是特别匹配，但是有特色就意味着电影的视角有自己独特的想法。
